Announcing the Launch of the Community Fit Club Weight Loss Workbook

Debbie, our new Development Manager

We are delighted to annunce the launch of our eagerly anticipated 'Community Fit Club Workbook.' We have often been complemented on the quality of our Community Fit Club resources, and after numerous requests, we have created the programme in a journal-based format that can be worked through by individuals on their own.

After speaking to health professionals working in the field of weight management, it appears there are a lot of people who do not wish to attend weight management groups, but who would still like some support with their weight loss.

The Community Fit Club Workbook has been developed with a number of uses in mind:

"" for individuals to work through on their own
"" for friends working together to lose weight
"" for health trainers offering one-to-one support
"" as a 12-week structure for group support

The workbook is 140 pages and the programme takes its readers through the complete weight loss process, including 12 weekly lifestyle challenges to help the development of healthy new behaviours.

The first half of the book takes the reader through the basics of weight loss, setting appropriate targets, how to take measurements and how to deal with setbacks. Then there's a food section with quizzes and tools to help readers understand the healthy eating balance, a physical activity section with tools to inspire them to try new activities and to be more active and this is followed by a lifestyle skills section where they set lifestyle goals and address aspects such as motivation and support, which are critical to a successful weight loss.

The second half of the book introduces a new lifestyle challenge each week for 12 weeks. There is also 12 weeks of food and activity record sheets for readers to keep a complete record of their progress.

The workbook will be on general release from Monday the 28th September 2009 and we are holding two launch events which you are welcome to attend if you wish to have a closer look.

London - 2pm 13th October 2009 - Hilton London Tower Bridge

Manchester - 2pm 14th October 2009 - Great John Street Hotel, Deansgate

We will be offering a special introductory discount of over 20% off for all those who attend one of the launch events.

New Dates for Psychology of Health Behaviour Workshops

We have recently added seven more dates to our highly successful Psychology of Health Behaviour Workshop series this Autumn.

The workshop is a one-day tour of behavioural economics and what we can learn about its impact on health improvement behaviour. It's particularly relevant for Sport and Physical Activity Development Officers, Health Trainers, Smoking Cessation Specialists, Public Health Practitioners, Occupational Health Officers and anyone working to improve the health and wellbeing of others. Our delegates have included representatives from PCTs, local government, private sector and also the voluntary sector across a wide range of healthy living themes.

We explore the following questions:

Why do people make the choices that they do?
Why are people influenced by certain things, like brands, and peer pressure but still inclined to take risks on long term health behaviour?
What impact do beliefs and expectations have on service-user engagement?
Why do people procrastinate and put off things, even if they would they actually like to do them?
What impact does state of mind have on our decision making and how can we develop systems to help us stick to our resolutions.

Below are some quotes from our past delegates.

“A very useful and relevant course for those working with individuals on behavioural change, such as Health Trainers.” CHRIS BAGUMA, Health Promotion Manager, Brent PCT

“The course has made me re-think the way I approach my job... and the need to be more client centered.”
DAWN MITCHELL, Salford Community Leisure

“Non-stop, useful, life-changing ideas.” CHRISTINA JONES, Occupational Health Nurse, Kelloggs

“This workshop has made me look at my own practice and turn it on its head.” PAUL STENHOUSE, Newcastle PCT

“Great course with practical examples of ways to promote activities in a range of settings.” CHARLENE WILLIAMS, Physical Activity Coordinator, Bexley Care Trust

Where Will YOU Be in 6 Months?

This is a simple but delightful goal setting tool. You study the picture of the ship and choose a character which represents you now in relation to a goal you want to set. You choose the character you want to represent you in 6 months time. Write your goal on the back of the card, seal it in an envelope and hand it to a friend or colleague. Then open it up in 6 months time and see how well you did.

We use these cards as training aids in our workshops and following numerous requests we have now made them available to buy so that you can use them in your team-building and community engagement sessions too.

Contact us using the details below to find out about pricing and ordering quantities.
